So last Sunday by dad turned the big 60! He has been dreading this day, so how could I not make a big deal of it?!
My dad lives about 2 hours from Edmonton, so Joel and I decided we would head out to see him for the day. He lives on a farm and I have always loved being there. It always hits me with nostalgia as soon as I drive down the gravel driveway to the old house. The farm house is the same one my dad grew up in as a kid so it holds quite a few memories.
Our cat Posie also came from the farm. We picked her out of a litter and took her home when she was ready. Her sister (and her kittens) still live there!
In preparation for my dad’s 60th, I decided to make a cake. Now Joel recently purchased the Duchess Cookbook for me and I have made SO much and probably put on a few pounds because of how incredibly delicious it all is (if you have never been to Duchess Bake Shop you must must go!) So I decided I would make an elaborate cake called “The Duke” for the occasion..
It took me 2 days to make this cake. It was dark chocolate with a salted caramel centre (yum!), and so so so rich. It turned out tasting GREAT but looking less like the photo than anticipated (doesn’t it always…at least it tasted good!)
So I brought the cake down along with presents and a balloon. How can you celebrate without a balloon? My dad loved it even though I know he was not looking forward to being another year older. 🙂
Here are a few pictures of the day. Love you Pop!
