Joel and I frequent the Duchess Bake Shop more than we would like to admit and we never leave without an abundance of macarons. I’m not sure what it is, but the light and fluffy shell with the delicious centre gets me EVERY TIME.
Usually when it comes down to treats I much prefer salty to sweet, but I will never turn down a Duchess macaron. Fortunately for us, Joel’s aunt gave us a handy little macaron kit to make our very own. They sell them at the Provisions Store if you are interested! I’m gonna be honest I was really nervous about making these because the cookbook talks for a whole page about how picky they are, and knowing my luck with picky recipes… I usually fail. But these turned out to perfection!
We decided to make a vanilla buttercream icing for the centre. It’s SO good. We have extra leftover and I’m trying to think of what to use it for. (Ideas?? If I can’t come up with something soon, there’s a risk of me eating it straight from the container….)
The recipe was very good at explaining but there was also a handy dandy YouTube video to help us along (thank you!). Here are some pictures! Sorry you can’t taste for yourself, but trust me…. they are AMAZING!
