I’m just gonna say it: I love chips! They are a love I will probably always have. Unfortunately they are so bad for you! Somewhere along the line it seems that people started treating chips (and junk food for that matter) as a snack rather than as a treat. At home we are trying to limit our treats and find better ways to snack. It’s so easy to get caught up in convenience, but if you can give yourself just an hour of time you can make some really delicious and HEALTHY snacks!
The best cure for my chip craving comes from making my own chips. But here is the catch: they are all just vegetables! And SO super easy to make (all they require is a bit of time in the oven). These options are way better because they don’t having any of those additives that a bagged snack would have. Also it’s entirely up to you how much you want to salt them!
Here are 4 different snacks we like to make around the house that are all super easy to do!
Rip off the amount of kale leaves you want (remember they will shrink in the oven).
Toss with a small amount of olive oil — you don’t need very much
Sprinkle with spices of your choosing. I use a tiny bit of salt, pepper, and cayenne on mine! Bake on 350 for around 20 minutes or until crispy.
Cut cauliflower into small pieces. Toss with a very small amount of olive oil, pepper, and garlic.
Bake in oven for about 40 minutes or until browned and crispy. If desired sprinkle with a bit of parmesan.
Cut parsnip into small discs. Toss with a very small amount of olive oil, pinch of salt, and pepper.
Bake in oven for about 40 minutes or until golden!
Cut beetroot into small discs. Toss with a small amount of oil, salt and pepper. Bake in oven for 40-50 minutes or until crispy!
Enjoy! If you have any other ideas for healthy snacks (I know we also like to roast chickpeas here) please let me know! Remember that these are healthier choices for snacks and should still be eaten in moderation! This less salt and oil the better. Get creative with your spices!
