Now that the weather is officially WARM I’m getting excited for all the delicious fresh garden vegetables of summer! A couple summers ago, Joel and I started a garden from scratch at our old place. It took a lot of work and a lot of blisters. We didn’t get to harvest much that year, and then we moved! So we said farewell to all our hard work. Now that we live in a basement suite we don’t have the option of having a big garden. Not much light hits inside our place either, so we can’t grow much indoors (the cat doesn’t help either). But this year we found some really cute planters for outside that can hang over the fence and are small enough to fit in our tiny walkway! We won’t be growing anything crazy, but I’m excited to be growing SOMETHING. We bought all the herbs! (Except dill and chives which are like my favourite but I can’t find anywhere! If you have seen them let me know!) Because the weather has been so beautiful we have decided to trust in it and plant all our herbs. I find growing herbs doesn’t take much skill when it comes to planting. They are also super cheap compared to buying them at the store each time. This way we can have fresh herbs all summer long and fresh herbs make all the difference when cooking. Also they are so much better for you knowing there aren’t any horrible pesticides and what not. (We got all ours at the farmers market btw). Hopefully in the next while we are able to have a proper garden. For now I will have to bombard my dad’s farm for all his delicious veggies and fruit. (I mean raspberries, saskatoons, asparagus, potatoes, beets… yummm) If you have any innovative ideas for growing food in a small area please let me know!
