After we were at the art gallery the other day it got me thinking about my childhood and all the art I saw. Growing up in Mexico City I was surrounded by some very influential art. Frida Kahlo was a personal favourite. I’m not sure if it was her work, her story, or the fact that I was surrounded by the same culture as she was that made me like her so much. If you ever have the chance to go to Mexico City, I highly recommend going to her house. There is so much history surrounding her and Diego Rivera and their connection to Russia through Leon Trotsky (I nerded over all this for a while and actually did my Grade 9 honours project on the subject.) Anyway, it’s a fascinating story, and even if you just want a snippet of it, the movie Frida is very good!
I found this dress the other day and although its not a style I usually go for, I loved it! I was a bit worried about the shape of it because, well, it doesn’t have much of one. But when I put it on I loved it! As soon as I wore it I was reminded of Frida Kahlo. I just love the textures and colour of it and where it hangs. I paired it with some Steve Madden heals (old but similar here) and my dutch crown braid (tutorial coming soon — stay tuned). How cute is this look?! It was nice to channel my inner Frida for the day, even though my artistic talent is nowhere near hers!
