Joel and I headed to New York for the weekend (he’s still there actually, doing a design conference!). Because both of us have been there numerous amounts of times before we didn’t actually even head to Times Square until we saw our first show. We decided this time to stay in Brooklyn. To be honest I wouldn’t do it again. Our hotel was clean but loud at times and it took us SO long each day to get into Manhattan. If we stayed in Brooklyn again it would probably be a different area to where we were, as it felt like an entirely different city away! All in all though it was nice to have a quiet-ish place to sleep at night.
Greenwich Village is probably one of my favourite places in NYC. It feels a lot more connected and down to earth to me than if you travel more uptown. As we were walking in and out of shops we stumbled upon the Magnolia Bakery. I had read about this place so I was happy to come across it, and it’s original location too! We ordered a couple cupcakes prior to dinner as an appetizer. They were pretty tasty! I’m not HUGE on the cake scene but I really liked this cupcake! I forgot to try to banana pudding which is what was recommended, but next time!
After we decided to go for dinner at a highly recommended place called The Spotted Pig. It lived up to it’s expectations! I ordered a pork chop, and although this was a pricy place to eat, I DEFINITELY got my money’s worth of food. It was huge!!!! And it came with kale risotto and roasted broccoli (yum). I loved it! I highly recommend this place if you are in the area and want a nice meal out! No reservations so expect to wait!
For dessert we headed to Big Gay Ice Cream to get what was called “A Salty Pimp”. Basically it like a dairy queen dipped cone but with salted caramel in it and better! It was pretty tasty! They have more than one location but this one was awesome! It’s small so there isn’t much room inside but the line moves quickly which was nice.
Will have more from our trip soon, including a video, so stay tuned!
