Summer in the City!

Friends… it’s almost SUMMER!!!! I really can’t contain my excitement. I love summer more than anything, and summer in Edmonton is no exception. I honestly think our summers make up for our awful winters (although I can’t really complain about this past winter). There is so much to do in Edmonton this time of year. I made my summer schedule and oh my goodness it’s full. I thought I’d make a list of things to do in Edmonton these next couple months in case you are at a loss for what to do!

  1. Interstellar Rodeo – July 22-24 – This music festival features some awesome artists and has wine pairings to go along with them! I have volunteered here a few times and it’s a lot of fun!
  2. Edmonton Folk Festival – August 4-7 – This is my favourite music festival in the city. I always discover new artists and the whole weekend is just a great deal of fun!
  3. Edmonton International Fringe Festival – August 11-2 – If you are a fan of theatre this is a festival for you! There are SO many shows to take in at reasonable prices with food trucks and street performers all around. Also.. I’m performing in it! So check it out!
  4. Farmers Market – There are a few farmers markets in the city. My personal favourite is the 104 street market. Everything is always so fresh and delicious!!
  5. Outdoor Pool – When it’s hot here, it’s hot! Cool off in an outdoor pool. My favourite is the one in Millcreek!
  6. Canada Day at the Legislature – July 1 – This is place to be in the city for canada if you want to indulge in the food and activities and see the fireworks over the North Saskatchewan.
  7. Devonian Botanic Gardens – Just outside of the city take a walk around the botanic gardens for a peaceful date!
  8. Fort Edmonton Park – This a great place to spend the day learning about the fur trade as well as catch a show or having high tea! 
  9. Walk Through River Valley – We have such a beautiful river valley , take a walk or skips some rocks!
  10. Whyte Ave Art Walk – July 8-10- Walk down Whyte to see some artwork in action!! Watch artists produce their artwork or find a new piece for your house! 
  11. Canoeing at Elk Island Provincial Park – A bit of a drive outside Edmonton you can go for a nice canoe ride to see some awesome wildlife!
  12. Edmonton International Jazz Festival – June 24-July 3 Go and listen to some jazz music at a variety of local venues!
  13. Freewill Shakespeare Festival – June 21-July 17 – If you are a fan of Shakespeare this is the festival for you!! Go and watch some great theatre at Hawrelak Park!
  14. Edmonton Street Performers Festival – July 8-17 – If you are wandering around downtown go check out some street performers at Churchill Square! These guys are amazing and some of the are dear friends of mine!!! Make sure to bring some cash to pay the artists for their show!
  15. Heritage Festival July 30- August 1 – This is one of my favourite festivals! There is food to try from all over the world along with amazing entertainment! If you have a chance to check this out I highly recommend!
  16. Taste of Edmonton – July 21-30 – This is a great food festival that features food trucks of local restaurants as well as music artists! If you have a chance to check this one out DO IT!
  17. K-Days – July 22-31 – If you are a fan of rides, carnivals, and music.. this is a festival for you! 
  18. Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival – August 19-21 – Spend a day watching the boats race on the North Saskatchewan!
  19. Symphony Under the Sky – August 26-28 – If you are a fan of classical music and star gazing, this is a great event! Listen to the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Hawrelak Park!
  20. Finish your summer book list! – Take the time to read outside and cross off all those books you were meaning to read!
  21. Drinks on Patio – Spend a sunny afternoon on one of Edmonton’s lovely patios enjoying cocktails with friends.
  22. Camping – Escape the hustle and bustle of the city to go camping in the great outdoors!
  23. Slide the City – Slip and Slide  – July 23 2016 – A GIANT SLIP AND SLIDE? I’m there!
  24. Movies On The Square – Aug 4, 11, 18, 25 – Enjoy a movie in Churchill Square!
  25. Art Gallery of Alberta – Go check out exhibits at the art gallery!
  26. Visit a U-Pick – Forget storebought strawberries! Go pick your own!
  27. What The Truck – Another food event! Follow them on twitter to see where the next food truck pop up will happen!
  28. High Level Bridge Streetcar – Get a beautiful view of Edmonton’s river valley on the streetcar!
  29. Fly A Kite – On a windy day find your nearest park and go kite flying!
  30. Telus World of Science – If it’s a rainy day, go visit Telus World of Science to see some cool exhibits and maybe catch an Imax movie!
  31. Tubing Pembina River – Spend a day relaxing as you float down the river!!!
  32. Paddle boating at Rundle Park – Rent a paddleboat and enjoy the peacefullness of the park.
  33. Colour Water Fight – Fill your water balloons with food colouring, get a white t-shirt, some friends, and away you go!
  34. Bowling – Spend an evening with friends at your closest bowling alley!
  35. Brunch date – What better time to brunch than in the summer?
  36. Strathcona Wildness Centre – Get out and about in nature and go on a hike through one of the trails at the wildnerness centre!
  37. Golf – Find your favourite golf course, some clubs, and a pencil and score sheet and away you go!
  38. Tennis – Have a game of tennis with some friends!
  39. Star Gazing – Find a park bring a blanket and some hot chocolate and go relax under the stars.
  40. Bike Ride – Take a long bike ride through Edmonton’s river valley!
  41. Yoga in Hawrelak Park – The Sunday Sessions – Spend your Sunday afternoon doing yoga in the park. It’s free! Did I mention, FREE?
  42. BBQ – Gather your friends and have a BBQ, play frisbee, sun tan, you know the drill.
  43. Picnic – Maybe use your delicious goods from the farmers market to go have a picnic!
  44. Garage Sale Shopping – Find some garage sales and go look for some hidden treasures!
  45. Gardening – What better way to get in touch with nature than to garden!!
  46. Shopping on Whyte Ave – Spend a Saturday strolling down whyte checking all the little boutique stores!
  47. Photo walk – Grab your camera and walk around the city to create a photo walk of this wonderful place!
  48. Colour Me Rad – July 9 – Participate in a 5km run and get COVERED in colour!
  49. November Project – Need a boost working out? Join the rest of the November Project for group motivation and exercise!
  50. Beach Volleyball – What sports speaks more summer than beach volleyball?
