This weekend Joel and I and some family made a little getaway! We are currently in Kimberley, BC staying in a cabin right on the mountain. It has been so nice to get away again from the city and just soak in the Rockies and the fresh air. Everything has been nice and relaxing and the town itself is very laid back so it’s easy to move along with it. Joel and I drove from Edmonton and though it was a long drive, it was so nice to be surrounded by the epic mountains and the thousands of trees that colour them. I always feel like I am being pulled to the mountains. Whenever I am able to get away I feel so at peace and calm and as though the world at home doesn’t even exist anymore. It is always such a refreshing change of pace and I feel lucky that we were able to sneak in some mountain time this weekend. After driving, though, my malfunction light on my car went on!!! I’m a bit nervous about driving all the way back, so here is hoping that nothing goes wrong and I can get it checked out when we are safe and sound at home.
Yesterday was Canada Day! Mostly years I spend this day working the festivities in the park back at home where there is so much to do! I wasn’t sure how much Canada Day was celebrated up here on the mountain, but it turns out it was quite quiet. We think a lot of people drive to the nearby city of Cranbrook where more festivities may be happening. We decided to stay around Kimberley and explore the platzl that is in the centre of town. There are bunch of cute little shops and quirky German artwork and clocks that all wrap around the centre of the square. It is such an endearing place! We ended up walking a block or two away from the platzl to a place called Creme which served homemade ice cream! It was pretty good. 🙂
Later on we went for a nice dinner and played some board games. Because none of us felt like leaving to go all the way to Cranbrook for fireworks, we just lit up some sparklers and had a little festivity of our own!
It ended up being a really nice and relaxing day. I am excited to share more from this trip with you soon, so stay tuned! Leave a comment below if you have been to Kimberley and have recommendations of things to do or if there is a favourite mountain town of yours that we should head to next!
